The most precious aircraft still flying today are certainly the warbirds. Not all aviation photographers have a taste for it, but if you like the old metal, our classic weekend in the UK is certainly the Walhalla event of the year. Most of the aircraft are very very precious, there is only 1 of them, AND they fly exclusively for the Aviation PhotoCrew!

Over the years we have raised the bar of expectations by each edition, so we know that the photographers expect us to come up with an amazing line-up… and more! Imagine a car from 1943, and realize that the aircraft posing behind the Skyvan photoship is indeed 80+ years old!! And flying.

For this edition we took it up another step by having an absolute unicorn in the flying collection: the DH9 is 100+ years old and saw service in World War I !!! The challenges around getting this aircraft airborne, and the Skyvan photoship to join up on it are immense, but we did it and so we got to see something that goes straight into the category ‘once in a lifetime’.

On both days we got an incredible line up, and we never had so many aircraft flying for us in just one weekend. All of them are stars on their own, besides the fighters we had the chance to see a number of vintage aircraft, much appreciated by the photographers onboard the Skyvan.

We got to enjoy the Spartan, Piston provost, a pair of Miles Magisters and the iconic Comet Racer.

While we started on Saturday with the DH9, also on Sunday we had a flavor of pre WW II aircraft… TWICE. A chance to see the Gloster Gladiator is reason enough to be fully happy, and then it teamed up with the Hawker Fury! We grabbed every minute of it, as once again this could be the first and last chance we got to see a formation like this.
Of course everyone loves the genuine WW II fighters, and we got so many of them! Four different Spitfires joined us over the weekend: the ‘Russian’ Spitfire, Spitfire PrXI , Spitfire XIV and Spitfire Mk IX.

An all-time classic and all-time favorite, the P-51 Mustang, showed up three times. We got to see the premiere of both ‘Marinell’ and ‘Jersey Jerk’ who flew on both days, and in formation with a Spitfire.

Also the Hawker Hurricane was present with on Saturday the Mk I, and the rare – yes just 1 flying in the world – Sea Hurricane on Sunday.

With the challenging weather, in and out of the sun, we were very lucky actually as it made for some spectacular backdrops. Going over the clouds in full sunshine and seeing a Spitfire up close is a sight you got to love as an aviation enthusiast. For 2025 we plan to organize a ‘Battle of Britain’ edition near the coastline to offer once again something exclusive for all the photographers joining us. The famous ‘White Cliffs’ will become our scenery with warbirds that have played an important role in this epic aerial battle.
