We only fly the Skyvan photoship once a year in UK airspace. Traditionally that is for the famous warbird weekend and the equally wellknown RIAT photomissions.

This summer we got the opportunity to add another day before we flew with all the warbirds. The Sleapkosh Fly-in takes place at Sleap airfield, and the time did match for us to fly the Skyvan there for 1 day. Now a fly-in is not an airshow, so you never know what to expect! We were in good contact with some pilots in advance, but most of the flights we would plan together with the flightcrews on the actual day.

The weather was challenging, but all right to fly, you don’t need sun to make great pictures! It was a fun day, and we got to join-up with a nice line up of GA aircraft. Even a real warbird, the Yak-3, made it to the Skyvan… and brought a little bit of sunshine!

However, the biggest surprise on this day was the unexpected and super unique opportunity to intercept the Wasp and Swordfish of the Navy Wings team, an organization taking care of the legacy of Royal Navy aircraft and helicopters. They have a number of airworthy assets, and we were super lucky to catch the Wasp and Swordfish passing by in the area on their way to Blackpool.

It was a really sweet day and a great start of our little UK tour. As the Sleapkosh fly in continues to grow, we might be back there in a few years!
